Hiya folks, i’m gonna do inktober. It’s this drawing challenge thingy were you do an ink drawing for a series of prompts, one for each day of October.

It’s a couple things: a way to do a drawing everyday, a method of self promotion, practice, and a ham sandwich carved into the likeness of Mt Rushmore. One of those things is a lie. I wont say which, I will leave that up to you to figure out.

I will put my shizznitt up on instagram evvr day, if not y’all get to hurl insults at me! or bananas! if you have no insults or banananaas you can always hurl cash because according to my bank account, I really have an aversion to the stuff.

I will put a  gallery up here at the end of the month and all of the drawings are available to purchase, so I will try and make them good.

heres the page I was working on as a proof of concept for a new comic. It’s about a girl who is the half fairy daughter of a fairy king in a world about 40 years after two world wars fought between humans and fae. it’s kind of epic. I havent gotten a goddamn thing done in two weeks because I turned forty and my little sister got married. oh and my computer died. the death of forever.WitchHouse_poc_web

Here are some drawings from this week and some others from the past that figure in with the new ones. The drawing on the  left is a study from a sketch book. The one on the right is from a comic about a girl who becomes the host for a symbiotic sentient alien algae. There is the requisite running from the government and falling in love with a robot. She eventually discovers another person also colonized by space algae but a red variety.  Together they find out they are basically algae royalty on opposite sides of a bloody war. Well as much as space algae has blood I guess. Sort of Romeo and Juliet in the future with space algae. I wrote the concept and some story at a time I was mildly obsessed with a blue haired girl.

Oni Mask

I put the shading into the oni face. I figured out a better method of getting the gradients in black ink, so I can lay the color over them like a tattoo. It also means  I’ll have a cool intermediate phase of a black and white toned drawing.

I did a bunch of small character sketches for  one of the comics yesterday and came up with a really cool idea for the layout of the time problem comic. It would have less of a traditional panel based layout and more of mish mash that you can read in any order. each spread page would be one large drawing instead of 18 smaller ones. It would subvert the sequential, mimicking a lack of time. Or make it totally unreadable. either way it will be interesting. I also plan on making a vaudevillian poster for the “Chicken” in a traditional tattoo style. Lots of ideas these days, I wish I could get my output on par with my brainstorming. I would probably have to stop sleeping and maybe grow some arms. Ooh! I think I’ll draw that!

whoa.That sucked. I was working on a couple of drawings for this weekends posts. When they wee done I looked at them and realized that they were, well, horrible. Like really bad. Totally out of proportion. Atrocious. Depressing. So here’s something old that doesn’t suck all that bad and let’s just say I owe you two new drawings. Hopefully I’ll learn from my mistakes, although historically that doesn’t seem likely.

One of the things I’ve been doing lately as an exercise is pin ups of characters from things that I like. This was actually the first in the series. I wanted to do a Bela Lugosi style Dracula. the drawing was in pencil and then inked and scanned where i cleaned it up slightly. In the works is a more interesting comped image including a custom “bat” photo shop brush and a really cool looking pen and ink moon. I might try and put a mist text element into it. It’s just slow going comping anything in photoshop on this ‘puter. It is fucking ooollllddddd and sllllloooowww.

I have found a word press theme I like, (coraline) and need to get to editing it to my liking.
